OpenAI has recently introduced new settings for ChatGPT, which now enable users to decide whether or not to save their chat history and use it for educational purposes. In addition, there is a new export function available, and in a few months, a new business subscription model will be launched.

The new settings offer users more control over their chat history. ChatGPT has faced criticism regarding data privacy, and in January, researchers warned about vulnerabilities in data protection, urging companies not to share confidential data with chatbots. In Samsung’s case, this led to a data leak. Italy has blocked the chatbot due to data protection concerns and has reportedly provided OpenAI with a list of measures to lift the ban.

Greg Brockman, President and Co-founder of OpenAI, shared a screenshot that shows a new parameter that allows users to choose whether or not to save their chat histories and use them to train the language model. Unsaved chats will be deleted within 30 days. OpenAI states in its blog post that this setting will take effect immediately and can be changed at any time. This decision is expected to make the opt-out process much easier. Unsaved chats will also not be displayed on the sidebar.

Unsaved chats are stored for 30 days and are only reviewed if there are signs of abuse. After 30 days, the history is irreversibly deleted.

Additionally, there is a new export function that allows users to send their chat history and other data via email. This solution should also help users understand what data ChatGPT is storing.
